A GOOD WEEK'S WORK FOR LARNE BOSS
LARNE FC manager Paul Millar did not get the result he wanted in the last match of the season.
But, a 2-1 home defeat by Banbridge was only a minor blip in an otherwise good weekend's work for the former Cardiff City and Northern Ireland international.
"We had enough chances to win two games and had them under pressure for most of the match. But we only scored once and they got two goals - pretty good form them considering they only got into our box twice in the second half and stuck the ball in the net on each occasion," quipped Millar.
"We created a lot of chances but we didn't make the best use of them, unfortunately. We really did squander more than our fair share of opportunities. But it's better than not getting opportunities, I suppose," he added.
"It would have been nice to sign off for the season with a win, especially for the supporters, but the result was not of any real significance anyway. Had we won we would not have moved up a place and, despite losing, we didn't drop down a spot.
"Otherwise, it was a good week for Larne Football Club. I signed my contract and then I was delighted that (assistants) Paul Carland and Jeff Russell decided to commit themselves to the club for a three-year term as well, albeit only a verbal agreement.
"As a bonus, I'm pleased to say that goalkeeping coach Martin Bird has also said he will stay on with us for the same period.
"And then on Saturday I spoke to five players and they have all signed on for another couple of years – Bertie Fulton, Marc Brown, Michael McQuoid, Adam Dick and Reece Moore.
"Virtually all the rest are either out of contract or due to be out of contract in the next month and I have plans to meet with all of them to discuss their futures."
Millar revealed: "I have also been speaking with Linfield and Glentoran about the players we have on loan. I'd love to keep Alan Reid, Robbie White, BJ McMenamin and Jamie Marsh. But The Blues and The Glens will have to sort out their own first team players before they can give me any decision on what's likely to happen."
