Larne 1st XV 49
Wigtonshire 0

On Saturday Larne played hosts to Wigtonshire from Stranraer in the yearly fixture. 'Shire' arrived with a couple of players short and had to borrow a few of the Larne squad. Larne themselves were not at full strength as they had sen
t a team to the Ophir Sevens Tournament.

From the start it was clear Larne were 'up for the game' and despite both sides having to come to terms with a few new laws, Larne were dominant and by half time were 20-0 ahead. Two penalties from 'new recruit' Simon Humphrys and tries from Stephen McReynolds and Ricky Adair both well converted by Humphrys were the scorers.

The second half was similar to the first with Larne in control. Larne lost Captain Wright with a serious gash to his head and 'Shire' lost two players to injury.

Larne extended their lead with further tries from Humphrys, McMullan, McReynolds, Phil Agnew and from another new recruit Gilliland. Two of the scores were converted by Humphrys and Phil Agnew which took the final score to 49-0 in Larne's favour.

As a squad game there were alot of positives and it was good to see so many young players involved. Players who 'caught the eye' included Mark McKinley, McReynolds, David Thompson, who has just resigned for the club, Gowdy and James McCluggage.

There will be harder tests in the season ahead but new Coach Davy Wilson would be happy enough with Larne's start to the year.
