KILLYLEAGH YC 1
ITS four spot kicks in the last three matches for Wellington left back, skipper, and current leading goalscorer Darrin Crawford, and his latest penalty prowess rescued a last gasp point for Rec in this disappointing encounter w
ith Killyleagh at Brookvale Park.
As Wellington boss Jeff Carmichael sighed afterwards, “it was a match that had nil-nil written all over it. It wasn’t a great game. We never looked like conceding, but the problem was we never looked like scoring either!”
The Millbrookers did have what could only be described as a half chance through Sean Ward, but the stalemate meandered on until Killyleagh snatched a shock 70th minute lead, courtesy of a free kick which somehow bounced wide of keeper Stevie Hanna.
Wellington did their best to stir from their slumber, and the Killyleagh netminder had to look lively in keeping out an Andy Bell header, but the game had entered into stoppage time when a visiting defender lunged in at substitute Craig Cowie. Well placed referee Jim Holden was in no doubt, and up stepped Captain Crawford to secure what could turn out to be a precious point for the Carmichael Clan.
Next week, Wellington travel to Holywood FC, while the following Saturday, they return to Brookvale Park for the visit of Dromara Village.
Best for Wellington, Rab Bannon, a 20th minute replacement for the Injured Scott Cowie.
Wellington Rec; Hanna – Curneen, O’Neill, S Cowie (Bannon), D Crawford – Nelson (C Cowie), Wharry, N McAllister, Todd (Burns) – Bell, Ward.
Player Out - Eamon Harkin, M, Larne Tech OB
