TOP triathlete and current NI Cross Country champion Brian Campbell achieved his target of completing the Dublin Marathon inside 2 hours 30 minutes.
Brian is targeting his first Iron Man triathlon next June in France and in preparation for this he needed to gain experience over the marathon distance. An Iron Man event encompasses a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and finishes with a marathon.

Although having trained over this distance there was always the apprehension of completing a competitive race over the 26.2 mile distance for the first time.

No problems were experienced during the race, however, with Brian running the second half of the race in a faster time than the first, recording a time of 1 hour 14 minutes on the homeward half against 1 hour 15 minutes on the outward half. With a total time of 2 hours 29 minutes, Brian finished in a very creditable 23rd place.
