Looking back... A8 road set for upgrade

News that upgrade work on the Larne to Belfast A8 road was to get the go ahead was welcomed by councillors in Larne in April 2001.

Ald Jack McKee, while welcoming the news, remained sceptical about when work would actually get underway. He added that the work would cause “a lot of hassle” for motorists and said steps should be taken to ensure traffic flow was not overly disrupted.

Both Ald Tom Robinson and Cllr Bobby McKee recognised the importance of the upgrade. They agreed that the upgrade of the A8 and the A75 in Scotland were both of great importance. Cllr Robert Lindsay Mason repeated his call for traffic lights to be installed on the road instead of the proposed roundabouts.
