a NUMBER of new members have been warmly welcomed to the East Antrim branch of the University of the Third Age (U3A).

Some came along to the monthly general meeting - held in Joymount Hall, Carrickfergus - to find out what the U3A is all about, others decided to join, having been inspired by the wide range of activities on offer. U3A is perfect for anyone who would like to make new friends and take up new hobbies.

In some groups, members only need to turn up at a given location to enjoy a day out, around museums, art galleries, gardens or any places of interest to members.

Chairman David Nesbitt invited group leaders to give an update and outline forthcoming activities.

With the computer starter’s group beginning again after the summer break, Patricia gave details of the venue with the next date Thursday, September 6, while inviting members to try the group as a taster session.

The family history group will resume in September.

Roderick gave the next outing for the Gadabouts as Friday, September 7, with a bus tour of Belfast architectural heritage buildings.

Buildings included will be Queen’s University, City Hall, Stormont and St Anne’s Cathedral.

Next outing for the gardening group will be September 17, to view a private garden on the Blackhead Path in Whitehead.

Opera Shingleside meet for the two evenings of August 31 and September 1. With the popularity of this group it is now advisable to book.

The Stretch and Relax group meet on Wednesday, September 5 at 10am in Joymount Hall, Carrickfergus and weekly thereafter.

The rading group resumes at 2pm on Monday, September 11.

Cranny Falls and Tardress Forest were the chosen venues for the walking group’s last outings.

Further details will follow regarding the Practical Art group, as this may be weekly as from September 2012.

Visual Arts are planning an outing to the Titanic Quarter in Belfast around the end of September.

The craft group will commence in September for a get-together to agree further details.
