A trio of local charities have enjoyed a £300 boost to their coffers after being chosen as beneficiaries of ASDA Larne’s community fundraising scheme.

Guide Dogs NI, Larne RNLI and Brookies Korner After Schools club were nominated by ASDA customers and staff through the Chosen By You, Given By Us green token scheme.

Guide Dogs NI, who received the most customer support through the green token scheme, were the winners and received a cheque of £200 to continue their invaluable work.

Runners-up Larne RNLI and Brookies Korner After Schools Club each received a cheque for £50.

Explaining how the green token scheme works, ASDA Larne’s Community Life Champion Catherine McCallion revealed: “Customers nominate local charities online or in store at the community board. Customers get the tokens while shopping and they put it into the container of the charity they would like to support. The scheme runs for two months and the winner gets £200 while the two runners up get £50.”

No community organisation can be nominated more than once in a year, meaning that several local groups benefit from the initiative.

Christine continued: “It’s about supporting local charities, many of whom are run on a month-to-month basis. Our customers have voted for these charities, and I would like to congratulate these three very deserving organisations. I hope the donations help them to continue their great work in the community.”
