the festive season officially begins in Larne tomorrow (Friday) with this year’s Christmas switch-on ceremony.
Larne Alive is calling for volunteers to participate in the Christmas light parade as part of the evening’s event, so look out those torches, lanterns or glow sticsk and be part of the procession.
Local schools will be joining in the parade and are taking part in special lantern-making workshops especially for the big night. The carnival band will be leading the way along Main Street followed by the procession of light and, of course, special guest, Santa.
At Broadway bandstand, Chaine Music’s DJs will be entertaining the crowd from 5.00pm-5.30pm followed by the beautiful melodies of the renowned Belfast Community Gospel Choir. There will be plenty of street entertainers to keep the whole family amused.
Santa will be arriving at the bandstand with the lantern light parade to help the Mayor of Larne, Councillor Bobby McKee along with members of Larne Adult Centre, switch on the Christmas lights at 7pm.
Chairman of the Larne Alive Committee, Councillor Gregg McKeen said: “The entertainment continues with street entertainers back on Broadway and Chaine Music performing until 7.45pm.”
The Mayor of Larne added: “This is your chance to help light up Larne this Christmas so make sure you don’t miss out.”
Parade participants will be meeting at Quay Street at 6.30pm. For more information on how to get involved contact Larne Tourist Information on 028 2826 0088. Please note that children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian if participating in the parade.
