Larne Alliance councillor Gerardine Mulvenna last week represented Mid and East Antrim Council at the first meeting of the new Partnership Panel for Northern Ireland, held at the Stormont Estate.

Chaired by Environment Minister Mark H Durkan, the panel was created under the local government reform programme and comprises Executive ministers, councillors from the new councils and members of the Northern Ireland Local Government Association.

Cllr Mulvenna said she believed the panel is “an important element of the new local government structures and it is very important that the local people are represented so that we can maximise the benefit for our local area”.

She explained: “The purpose of the panel is to improve coordination between departments and councils, help tackle local issues and deliver better outcomes for communities, allowing us to adopt a more sustainable approach to the challenges we are all facing.”
