East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson has urged for a final date for the completion of roads and sewers work at Larne’s Lindara development.

The DUP representative welcomed recent progress on the long-running lobby by residents to have roads adopted and sewers upgraded, be added that he is disappointed that there is still no schedule for completion of the process.

Mr Wilson said: “For almost three years, I have been in regular contact with Roads Service and NI Water about the completely unacceptable state of the roads, sewage and drainage in Lindara. It has been a long-running saga that has been of great annoyance to local residents and I am pleased that the end is now in sight.”

He revealed that NI Water, having completed a CCTV survey of storm and foul sewers, is preparing a list of defects and seeking to employ a contractor to carry out the repairs. “Hopefully, this will bring an end to the problems that many residents have been facing such as blocked sewers and sewage running into people’s property,” said the MP.

“Once this is completed, Roads Service will then employ a contractor to build retaining walls and complete carriageways and footways so that Lindara will finally be completed,” Mr Wilson explained.

“I will continue to press Roads Service and NI Water to carry out this work as soon as possible so that roads, sewage and drainage can be brought up to standard for the people living there. It is disappointing that we do not have a date for completion, as this has gone on for far too long. However, I welcome the progress that has been made.”
