Islandmagee feels like 'new Holylands' - claim

SLANDMAGEE residents feel abandoned by police and are fearful for the safety of their homes and businesses, it has been claimed.

As the Larne Times reported exclusively last week, local police faced a backlash from residents after 2,500 worth of damage was caused to the public toilets at Brown's Bay during an orgy of destruction by young people who had attended a rave party.

District Policing Partnership member Crawford Wilson said the public perception was that police had "done nothing" to stop the vandalism and added that the incident had been "the final straw" for a number of disillusioned residents.

PSNI area commander Ryan Henderson has said officers had not intervened in the incident for their own safety.

Now, a concerned Islandmagee woman, who does not wish to be named, has contacted the Times to express her fear that the rural community has been left to "fend for itself".
