Hi-tech solar bin is torched

LESS than a week after a £50,000 investment in hi-tech solar-powered waste bins across the borough, one has already been targeted by vandals.

The 2,700 compactor bin at the Headless Cross car park was damaged by fire over the weekend, prompting angry local councillor Danny O'Connor to urge the public to name and shame the offenders.

The SDLP man said: "It makes my blood boil and it should anger every single person, because when these louts go around causing wanton destruction like this it's like taking the money out of the pockets of people whose hard-earned cash pays for public property."
