Fears that pets are snatched to blood fighting dogs
LARNE pet owners are advised to be vigilant following an alleged spate of dog thefts across East Antrim.
The Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary has claimed that these have occurred in the Ballyclare, Doagh, Greenisland and Newtownabbey areas.
On Monday, a collie-type breed was bundled into a white Transit van at Marshallstown Road, outside Carrick, at 9.20 on Monday morning, before it sped from the scene.
The thieves were described as “two stocky guys with black hair”.
Mid-Antrim Animal Sanctuary says that these thefts could occur anywhere, so dogs and cats should be watched carefully when they are outdoors.
However, the PSNI has stated that the theft of dogs is not a police investigation.
Concerns voiced on Facebook recently urged pet owners to be wary of any unfamiliar callers to their home. #
One comment claimed that two men tried to steal family pets in the Greenisland area, but did not succeed.
And another comment suggested that a man was caught red-handed by the dog’s owner.
