Campaign launched to highlight domestic abuse

A CAMPAIGN has been launched to highlight the disturbing rise in domestic abuse incidents in the Larne area.

Statistics show that a shocking 408 incidents were reported to the police from April 2009 to March 2010 - that's nearly EIGHT domestic abuse incidents in the borough every WEEK.

This figure represents an increase of 35.5 per cent on the same period the year before.

A focus group of local women have joined forces to draw attention to domestic violence as a major issue for the whole Larne community.
