The North Eastern Education and Library Board has welcomed Education Minister John O’Dowd’s announcement of an extra £220 million for the progression of capital projects and a further £40 million for the School Enhancement Programme over the next two years, aimed at refurbishing or extending existing schools.

The board has responsibility for funding Kilcoan and Mullaghdubh schools and will manage the planning and construction of the new school in Islandmagee.
A board spokesperson said: “We are delighted that schemes within the board area are included in this announcement, given the significant planning work carried out by the board over past years. It is clear the minister has taken this into consideration.”

She added: “The board will now engage in the important next stage of work to ensure that appropriate provision is made for the education of children and young people in the Antrim and Islandmagee areas.”
