Ballyclare Town Service pulled
THE Ballyclare Town Service bus will be withdrawn at the beginning of April Translink has announced.
At Monday night’s Planning Committee officials from the organisation said that “next to no one” was using the service and because of that it was being withdrawn.
Gerry Mullan, Newtownabbey area manager said: “It is unfortunate that we have to lose the service, but the passenger numbers just were not sustainable.
“In some cases there were just five journeys a week.
“For the past 18 months to two years we have been consulting with the public on trying to increase its use, but the demand is clearly not there and from April 1 the service will no longer continue.”
Alderman Paul Girvan said: “It will be sad to see this service lost, but I would like to thank Translink for trying their very best to keep it in service.”
Councillor Jim Bingham added: “It’s regrettable but we have been saying that if it was not used then it would be lost and that is what has happened.”
