Approval for port expansion plan

THE Port of Larne is to be granted planning permission to extend its operation at the harbour, Larne councillors were told at their monthly meeting.

A petition and five objections were lodged when Planning Service first advertised the land-reclaimation proposal, which will enable enlargement of the port marshalling yard.

Among the objectors was Larne Boat Club, which wrote to the council last week, urging members to make one last stand against the proposal. The letter appealed to councillors to "do whatever you can to object to this planning application".
