Hopes for a long-awaited hydrotherapy pool at Roddensvale School have been realised, after Education Minister John O’Dowd gave his approval for the project to proceed.

The facility - which provides a weight-free environment allowing pupils to be free of wheelchairs and enjoy a greater range of muscular movement - has been an aspiration of the school’s board of governors since the new building opened in 2005.

Welcoming the decision, Larne Councillor Roy Beggs said: “I have campaigned continuously to have the same provision for special needs children in the Larne area as is provided in other parts of the province.”
