DUP MP for East Antrim Sammy Wilson and local Councillors Gregg McKeen, Paul Reid and Bobby McKee have welcomed NI Water’s promise to take action to eliminate odours from Ballystrudder sewerage pumping station.
In a statement, Mr Wilson’s office said that over the last year, many Ballystrudder residents had experienced a noxious smell from the sewerage station which could reach as far as Middle Road.
The statement continued: “It would seem that the dosing plant to neutralise odours did not have the capacity to deal with the amount of sewage going through the station and the new plant has now been ordered.
“It is undergoing factory tests and should be installed and work completed by the end of July or the beginning of August.
“Northern Ireland Water have apologised for the inconvenience to residents and hopefully the problem has now been dealt with for good, though we will continue to monitor the situation.”
