The Northern Ireland Hospice has thanked its Larne Support Group for raising over £40,000 so far this year towards hospice care.

In the local area, 195 patients have been cared for by the hospice’s community nursing teams in their own homes and in their in-patient unit at Whiteabbey.

The group’s work includes holding street collections, door collections, and organising and participating in fundraising events to raise vital funds to support this charity.

Outgoing chair of Larne Hospice Support Group Alice Crum said: “We would like to thank everyone who has supported our fundraising efforts over the last year and everyone that has helped us to raise this great amount for the patients and their families.

“A big thank you to AES NI for what was our group’s biggest ever donation, earlier this year we received £10,000 and I would like to thank again everyone from Joint Committee for Social Responsibility at AES NI.

“We are proud to support the Hospice and with the help and support of the local community we will hopefully continue to grow our fundraising total in years to come.

“We would welcome anyone who would like to help fundraise for our charity and become a part of our Larne Hospice Support Group.”

Community Fundraiser for the Northern Ireland Hospice John Phillips commented: “Every year the Hospice needs £3million from voluntary donations and legacies to continue providing specialist nursing care to patients and their families because the demand for hospice care continues and sadly many more people will need our help in the coming months.

“We simply could not continue to run our services without the support of the public, groups and volunteers.

“Every £30 raised pays for one hour of specialist nursing care for a patient and we are relying on this support to continue.”

The group are seeking new volunteers from the Larne area to help them to continue fundraising.

There are many different fundraising volunteer roles available within the Northern Ireland Hospice, ranging from volunteering for a two hour street collection to being a full time member of the Larne Hospice Support Group.

Anyone interested in becoming a fundraising volunteer or who would like more information should contact a member of the fundraising team on 028 9078 1836 or visit www.nihospice.org
