St Killian’s College student Aidan Murray turned in a five-star performance at the All-Ireland Coastal Rowing championships last weekend and
then doubled that with 10 A* grades in his GCSE examinations.

Aidan has been a high achiever in athletics but he only took up rowing in late 2012.

He was third overall in the Senior Singles and second fastest overall Junior competitor.

His rowing and academic achievements have caught the attention of Yale University and the top USA Ivy League college is keen to offer him a scholarship.

“Around the time I was thinking about my GCSE choices, I took up rowing. It was all new to me, the technique etc, but things have been going really well.”

“I am delighted with my results, and I want to thank my parents who help me a lot in organising my time between school work and all the other hobbies and sports I have.”

Aidan, also a promising pianist, is intending to study maths, biology, French and chemistry for A Level.
