LARNE Leisure Centre will be closed to the public from 6pm between Tuesday, December 27 and Friday, December 30.
Last year, demand from customers to use the facilities on evenings between Christmas and New Year was so low that the council now feels it does not justify the running costs associated with staying open.
The centre was open until 10pm on these dates in 2010, as the local authority wanted to see if the new fitness suite would increase demand for evening opening.
However, the total income generated over the four evenings was just over £500, which is significantly lower than during a normal week. In fact, on the evening of December 27, the centre only generated £8.70 from a total of seven admissions.
It is worth noting that the swimming pools were closed at this time due to ongoing refurbishment.
