Outstanding results for Larne Grammar School GCSE pupils

With the vast majority of pupils matching or exceeding their expectations, with 96 per cent achieving at least five A* to C grades, there was particular cause for celebration for David Balmer and his family with the news that he achieved an incredible nine A*s and one A grade.

David, who was formerly a pupil of Moyle Primary School, bagged this outstanding set of grades in English, English Literature, French, history, information technology, mathematics, double award science, Spanish and religious studies.

Clearly delighted with his results, David said: “I’m over the moon to receive a set of results like this. I would like to thank all of my teachers who worked hard with me over the past two years.”

David will now go on to study Spanish, history, French and biology at AS Level with the hope of studying French and Spanish at University.

Hot on David’s heels were Natasha McGowan, formerly of Lourdes Primary School, and Andrew Morton, formerly of Olderfleet Primary School. Both of these pupils were awarded eight A*s and two A grades. Chloe McIlroy, formerly of Larne and Inver Primary School, was awarded nine A*s and a B grade.

A further nine pupils, Jacob Carmichael, Rebekah Boyd, Ellie Beckett, Caitlin Russell, Jenny Wilson, Robert Boyle, Joel Fekkes, Libby Elliot and Katie Buckley all achieved eight A* or A grades.

“I also want to thank the staff of the school who have enabled our pupils to fulfil their potential and the parents who have supported their children through the exam process.

“I look forward to welcoming the vast majority of our Year 12 pupils back into Year 13 to begin their ‘A’ Level studies and wish those students who are leaving us every success as they continue their education or move into training or employment.”
