A Larne Grammar School pupil has raised a whopping £2,500 for a charity that is close to his heart, after he completed the London Marathon.
Year 14 pupil James Stafford took on the mammoth fundraising challenge in aid of Cancer Focus NI.
Finishing the London Marathon has been a long term objective for James, who took up running under difficult circumstances.
He said: “During first to third year at school, my mum was receiving treatment for cancer. This was a very difficult time for me and I took up running as a way of relieving stress.”
What started as a way of relieving stress quickly turned into something much more competitive, with James completing the Larne Half Marathon aged 15 and the Belfast Marathon the following year.
He then approached Cancer Focus NI about running the London Marathon on their behalf. Through a bun sale and non-uniform day in school, as well as a successful coffee morning at home, James has so far raised close to £2500, with more money coming in every day.
