This year’s switch on will see Santa join the Larne Alive Committee at Broadway to kick off the festivities.

Local schools and community groups will be offered the chance to take part in lantern-making workshops for a lantern parade to lead Santa around the town centre.

Community groups in the Larne area will also be asked to take part in the parade, which will feature floats and music.

Additionally, primary schools in the Larne area will be invited to sing Christmas carols during the month of December at both Broadway and Larne Town Hall.

On Saturday December 3, Larne Market will host a Christmas craft and food market with live music and a special visit from Father Christmas and his reindeer.

The council is also planning to conduct a marketing campaign in Larne throughout December to boost local trade.

One possible strapline is: “We might surprise you this Christmas”.

A council report stated: “A marketing campaign will be created to encourage shoppers and visitors to Larne; the design, campaign elements, marketing message and strapline is to be agreed with traders.

“Design of campaign and all print collateral, press adverts, billboards, posters for traders, bin lorry Agripa banners. Traders promote their own ‘surprises.’

“Town centre activities to add to ambience and promote shopping offers; on December Saturdays - walkabouts with giveaways, music at Broadway, possible link with radio promo teams.”
