Mid and East Antrim Council is aiming to re-open the Gobbins cliff path ahead of the Easter weekend, next month.

The Islandmagee attraction has been closed to the public since the end of December, when a landslip caused by high levels of rainfall caused severe damage to parts of the access path.

A council spokesperson said: “Since the temporary closure of the Gobbins, the Council has been working with engineers to assess the landslip. Work has commenced to put in place a new drainage system that will help manage this and repairs of the main access pathways will commence as soon as possible.

“To date we have had to cancel approximately 390 bookings across January and February – with over 150 of these customers rebooking for a later date. The average ticket price is £7.50.”

The Gobbins Visitor Centre, shop and exhibition remains open to the public from 10am–4pm daily.

The £7.5m reinstated Gobbins cliff path, which gives unequalled access to stunning coastal views, officially opened in August following a number of delays.

The attraction is proving to be a big hit and recently welcomed its 5,000th visitor.

Tourism NI has described the experience as “one of Northern Ireland’s most exhilarating attractions”.
