LARNE FC could be in line for major cash windfall to help upgrade the playing surface at Inver Park.
The club is in the process of submitting a funding application to Sports NI under the Community Capital Programme Fund, and if successful could receive a grant to the tune of about £250,000.
And Larne Borough Council, as landlord of the grounds, has agreed to enter into a Deed of Dedication with the club and Sports NI, subject to confirmation that the improved pitch will not be hired out to other groups, as dictated by the current lease. Alternatively, the council also resolved that a new lease could be negotiated to allow for hiring of the upgraded facility.
The local authority received a letter from Sports NI last week confirming that stage three approval for the application has not yet been given, and so Larne FC has not yet been required to submit a business case.
