The telephone befriending service was one of five local charities in Northern Ireland to receive almost £40,000 from The Asda Foundation.

Community Life Champion at Asda Larne Catherine McCallion commented: “As a thank you and to mark our anniversary, we are ‘caking’ people’s days’-treating deserving organisations within the community to a special visit from the #cakemyday van and the chance to celebrate receiving their Asda Foundation grants.

“We see first-hand the work Good Morning Larne does within the community and it really is fitting they received the donation.”

Asda Foundation Manager Julie Ward added: “Our celebration gave us the opportunity to say a huge thank you for the work these organisations do and to help them create a lasting legacy for the future.

“We are delighted to be able to recognise all the groups for making a real difference and our 50th anniversary was the perfect time to do this.”

Good Morning Larne Co Ordinator Barbara Ann Gilchrist commented: “Good Morning Larne is a free, telephone based befriending, support and alert service for older and vulnerable adults in the Larne area, which allows older people to stay independent in their homes.

“The Asda Foundation 50th birthday donation will be of enormous benefit to our volunteers and will make such a difference to the service offered to clients and the community.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to Asda for its support! We are overwhelmed – and the cupcakes were delicious as well!”
