Man arrested in connection with armed robberies at Larne takeaway

A man has been arrested in Craigyhill on suspicion of three counts of robbery, two counts of possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances and one count of possession of a class B controlled drug.

The 20-year-old was arrested on the evening of Wednesday 26 October in connection with three armed robberies at a takeaway in the Upper Cairncastle Road area on Wednesday January 13, Thursday January 14 and Monday April 4 2016.

Detective Constable Gardiner said: “A search was also carried out at a house in the Craigy Hill area where a number of items were seized.

“The man currently remains in custody assisting police with their enquiries.”

During the first incident on Wednesday January 13, a man armed with a suspected firearm entered the takeaway and made off with a sum of cash.

Two staff members were left shaken following the incident, but were not injured.

In a similar incident the following day, a man armed with a suspected firearm entered the shop and made off with a sum of cash.

The three staff members were left shaken but uninjured.

Then, on Monday April 4, a man armed with a hammer entered the shop and made off with a sum of cash.

The two staff members were left shaken following the incident but were unharmed.
