Crafting new skills is first for new Larne course

Ten women have successfully completed a creative craft programme organised by Surestart, LEDCOM and Northern Regional College.

This is the first course under the Learner Access and Engagement Programme (LAE).

The women enjoyed the accredited 15-week creative craft which involved basic mixed craft skills.

A variety of beautiful work was created by the participants including personalised cushions, bags , a jewellery box, children’s bunting and other bespoke designs and creations.

Ashley Stewart one of the course participants commented: “ I really enjoyed the course and surprised myself on what I could achieve, I definitely plan to do another course”.

LEDCOM has acknowledged the support of Janet Preston and her team at Surestart, Action for Children to bring the courses into the heart of the community with childcare on site at St. Anthony’s Primary for the participants.

LEDCOM offers a range of courses under the Learner Access and Engagement Programme including, essential skills, English, maths and ICT, counselling, a variety of creative craft courses and much more and is keen to hear from local people who are currently out of work and have few qualifications; however the courses are open to everyone.
