THE poetic talents of a Larne man have earned him a royal ‘thank you’’.

Rev David Gordon, retired minister of Larne Free Presbyterian Church, penned two poems to mark this year’s special royal celebrations.

One was specially written in honour of the Queen’s Ascension to the throne in February, 1952 and the second for her coronation in June, 1953.

“I wrote them specially for these special occasions and sent them off to the palace. I never thought I would even receive a reply but I was very pleased when I did, along with a lovely coloured brochure.

“It was great for the poems to be acknowledged in this way. A lovely surprise, indeed,”” he said
