Larne’s business and enterprise centre, LEDCOM, is sponsoring the ‘Young Business Person of the Year’ category at this year’s Larne Business Awards.

Since its’ formation in 1985, Larne Enterprise Development Company (LEDCOM) has supported hundreds of young people into self employment with business advice, information, training, business plans and access to finance.

“The Larne Business Awards are a great opportunity for many local young business people to gain public recognition for their achievements, as well as promoting their business in a very effective way,” said LEDCOM chief executive, Ken Nelson.

“LEDCOM is delighted to be sponsoring the Young Business Person category and we look forward to presenting the award to the winner on October 11 in the Town Hall.

“I would encourage all Larne based entrepreneurs and business owners aged under 30 to apply before the deadline of August 17”, he added.

Currently LEDCOM delivers a range of support to young people considering self employment including the Exploring Enterprise Programme and Steps to Work (self employment option) as well as working in partnership with organisations such as Advantage and the Prince’s Trust.

During 2012/2103, LEDCOM is working with Larne Borough Council and partners such as the Department for Employment & Learning/Jobs & Benefits Office on a number of initiatives to help tackle youth unemployment within the Larne Youth Opportunities Programme. The programme is providing support young people into employment, training and self employment.

The Larne Business Awards offers 14 categories, covering all aspects of business and industry right across the Larne borough.

Hosted by the Larne Times and backed by Larne Borough Council, associate sponsors Larne Skills Development and category sponsors Port of Larne / P&O Ferries; Invest NI and Forever Living Products, the awards are aimed at recognising the talent, entrepreneurship and excellence that exists across the full range of business and commerce in the borough.

Larne Times editor, Valerie Martin, encouraged business owners and the general public to play their part in giving the borough’s business sector a pat on the back.

“The awards not only give the businesses themselves the chance to gain recogntion and publicity for their achievements but they also give a real boost to staff morale, company image and customer confidence,” she said.

A business can enter more than one award category but each entry must be submitted on a separate entry form.
