At the same time, the number of employees has grown to over 250 people, most of whom are from the Larne area” he said
The audience heard that Mr McKelvey’s leadership had been central to the the business’ success. Mr Delargy continued: “The company has been through numerous changes of ownership, one of which was critical in keeping the company as an ongoing concern. James was crucial in identifying a prospective partner. He didn’t give up when things looked bleak and continued to harangue and negotiate, resulting in a successful outcome.
“The company has since gone from strength to strength and James ensured that the Larne factory was maintained as a top class manufacturing facility that the new owners are proud of. The factory holds many accreditations in the pharmaceutical industry and is currently approved to supply to the UK, Europe and the USA. His unique style will be missed by all who have worked with him.
“With over 35 years’ service, James decided to retire this year whilst still at the top. His dedication to Ivex Pharmaceuticals, Galen, Gambro BCT, CaridianBCT and now TerumoBCT should be remembered and recognised by his former colleagues and the people of Larne,” the citation read.
