Broadband worries in Carnlough and the Glens

Sinn Fein are lobbying the telecommunications regulator for better broadband and mobile phone coverage along the coast amid increasing complaints about the services.

Councillor James McKeown said: “The Coast Road DEA that I represent is very rural and has areas classed as isolated. The heavy snow of March 2013 showed how dependant rural areas of the Coast Road constituency are on mobile phone coverage.

“The farming community is becoming more reliant on online applications such as those for their Single Farm Payment. Broadband also helps the farming sector with their stock records for all sheep, beef and milk, and Farm Modernisation Scheme applications made on line were given extra points. Contractors must make sure the post codes they are contracted to install are done on time.”
