A CHARITY has raised the alarm over bogus collection boxes.
Ballymena Samaritans says that although it has organised a number of fundraising activities in its district, which includes Larne, this does not include the distribution of collection boxes to homes in the town.
The charity says that the matter was highlighted when some householders in Ballymena were offered boxes to raise funds for Ballymena Samaritans.
A spokesperson said: “Although, we are doing a lot of fundraising through a variety of planned events in the local area of Ballymena; Ballyclare; Antrim; Larne; the Glens; Magherafelt; Portglenone; Templepatrick and the surrounding rural communities, the issuing of collection boxes is not part of our current fundraising.”
If anyone is offered a collection box, they are asked to contact the PSNI on 0845 600 8000.
