RECRUITING nights are currently being held for Larne’s Air Training Corps 806 Squadron.

The Roddens-based squadron provides lots of opportunities for young people to be involved in flying, adventure training, sports and many other activities.

The organisation is heavily involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Cadets undertake first aid training and received Youth First Aid certificates and badges from the St John Ambulance.

The ATC provides vocational qualifications integrated such as the BTEC Award in Aviation Studies, BTEC Certificate in Aviation Studies, and BTEC First Diploma in Public Services, which can be gained by attending parade nights and specific training weekends.

Air cadets can fly in RAF and commercial aircraft, with many progressing to achieve flying scholarships and their private pilot’s licence (PPL).

Any young person aged 13 to 17 can call in any Monday night in September and October. Parade hours are 7.30-10pm.
