Killyglen Accordion Orchestra members have retained the prestigious title of UK Intermediate Own Choice Champions after taking part in competitions in Liverpool.

The orchestra impressed the adjudicators with the performance of Intermezzo In Blue earning them them some very favourable comments. Conductor John Davison said: “The members of the orchestra had worked extremely hard over the last few months and deserved to be crowned UK champions.

The soloists also performed very well. Jonathan Wilson gained a fifth and sixth place in his championship sections and Katie Bell gained a third place in her 11 years and under musette section.

This year the Killyglen Orchestra is celebrating its 40th anniversary and a dinner dance to mark the occasion is being held in St John’s Masonic Centre on October 6. All past and present members and friends are invited to come along to the evening.

Photos of past and present members will be on display on the evening and anyone who can submit photos are asked to contact any band member.
