CHRISTMAS parcels filled full of gifts from the generous Larne public have been passed safely into the hands of soldiers serving in Afghanistan.
And according to the local organiser of the Support our Soldiers (SOS) appeal, the servicemen and women are just simply delighted to receive them.
Andrea Tolton said she had official confirmation that the 100 parcels made up in Larne had made it t
o their war zone destination.
"I got a card back to say they had all arrived safely and that the soldiers were just thrilled by them," she said.
"One of the captains wrote to me saying the soldiers were very grateful to everyone who had donated items or helped in any way. Knowing that they have support from the public means such a lot to them, especially at Christmas when they are away from their familes.
"I would just like to pass on their thanks to everyone in Larne who helped with the appeal, by donating items or packing them up," Andrea said.
The SOS appeal this year has had an overwhelming response nationwide, with 12,000 parcels made up specially for Christmas delivery to troops serving overseas.
It is an all-year-round appeal and financial donations can be made through the SOS website www.supportoursoldiers.co.uk
