LIFE expectancy in Larne is among the lowest in Northern Ireland, the survey says.
The average age at death of men in the borough is 74.3 years, which is just one decimal point above Londonderry where average male life expectancy is the lowest in the Province. Men in Ballymoney are the longest lived at an average 78.1 years compared with an Ulster average 75.8 years.

Women tend to outlive their male counterparts throughout the UK and in Larne the difference is six-and-a-half years at 80.8 years. Again Londonderry has the lowest life expectancy rate of 79.3 rate, with Ballymoney tops again with 82.4 years and the Northern Ireland average 80.5 years.

Unfortunately, Larne’s infant mortality rate (6.4 per 1,000 births) is among the highest, compared with Ballymena’s 2.9, though not substantially greater than the average 5.5. The infant death rate in Belfast is highest at seven per 1,000 births.

Ten in 1,000 Larne woman give birth as teenagers, compared with a Northern Ireland average 15.55 and 25 in Belfast.

The borough scores best in vaccinating youngsters. The local rate of 98.76 per cent is the highest in the Province.
