A SONG penned by two Larne men is currently being played on radio stations all over the world.
"It takes an Irish man to sing an Irish song" was written by east Antrim men, two of whom - Esler Burke and Bill Allen are from Larne. Together with Alan McClean, they are delighted that audiences all over the globe are getting the chance to apprecia
te their work.

The song is included in the latest CD by top Irish solo singer Curtis Magee and its popularity seems to be opening doors for him in countries where he has never even appeared.

Indeed, its success has taken the local writers somewhat by surprise.

"It was written about three years ago, to be honest it was done as a wee joke," said former showband frontman Esler.

"I didn't take it too seriously and it's the one I least expected to go this far. Now it is being heard all over the place. It's just amazing."

Curtis Magee - who is originally from Strabane - is the sixth artiste to record "It takes an Irish man..." and the trio behind it are well pleased with his interpretation of their song.

"It is great that it's becoming so popular," said Esler.

It is now the third recent writing success for the well-known Larne man, who is still in demand and performs at venues all over Northern Ireland. He was also involved in the writing of "Beautiful Lady" and "The Gospel Song" which were recorded by Warren Smith and Barbara Allen respectively.
