AN up-and-coming Larne author is urging local book-lovers to sink their teeth into her new novel when it launches just in time for Halloween.
Vampeire: The Debutante, penned by debut novelist Andrea White, is the first in a planned trilogy of books, which delve into the dark and mysterious world of vampires in modern-day Scotland.
Influenced by the wildly popular Twilight franchise, the book features a tale of love between a shy and lonely American student called Regan, and grief-stricken Layla, whose world has just been turned upside down by the death of her mother.
When the pair meet by chance, they fall headlong in love, but something deeper and darker seems to be drawing them together and also threatens to tear them apart.
And while the book is largely set in Glasgow, local readers will be pleased to learn that Glenarm also features as a prominent part of the story.
The novel is 37-year-old Andrea’s first foray into the realm of fantasy, but she told the Larne Times she really enjoyed writing the story and hopes it will appeal to youngsters and adults alike.
She added: “Anyone who is a fan of the Twilight series of books or films will feel right at home with this book.
“I have a teenager myself and he and his friends really enjoyed it, but many adults have also commented on how much they liked it.
“It is my first novel and I am delighted with how it has turned out. It looks very professional, and I am really excited about the book going on sale next month.
“I have already completed the other two parts of the trilogy, and if this book is a success then I hope to have parts two and three published in the near future.”
Andrea was born in Irvine, Scotland, but was brought up largely in Johannesburg, South Africa.
In 1993 she came back to Europe and settled in Northern Ireland, where she met her husband and began raising a family.
She has lived in Larne for 15 years and is currently employed as a PA at a local GP practice.
Vampeire: The Debutante is published by independent company Book Guild, and will be launched on Thursday, October 27.
Andrea will be signing copies of the novel in Book Nook, Main Street, Larne on Saturday, October 29 from 10am to 2pm.
