A Larne man won the safest driver of the year award in September 1990.
Kieran McFaul from the town defeated 80 other finalists to win the award.
The final was held at Nutts Corner track, with the entrants having won one of numerous heats from across Northern Ireland.
Kieran, who won the Carrickfergus heat, came out on top after a number of tests.
He had to excel during a number of Highway Code questions, as well as manoeuvrability and car assessment tests. These were all carried out under the watchful eye of a driving instructor.
The final test was a 30-mile road route which was observed by hidden marshals along the route.
He was praised by local motoring groups.
