As New York gears up for its famous marathon in November, runner Michael Stephenson from Jordanstown is backing the call from Action Cancer for people from East Antrim to join their team this year in the Big Apple.
Michael Stephenson, who took part in NYC16, said: “New York is amazing, this was my eight marathon – I ran six in the 1980s in my late teens and early 20s, then two this year, Belfast and NYC. And I have to say running through the Big Apple with its towering buildings, iconic bridges, busting streets and world famous landmarks was just fantastic.
“I felt very proud to be part of Team Action Cancer along with 18 other runners from Northern Ireland. Together we raised over £30,000 for the charity and the sense of achievement when we crossed the finish line in Central Park was incredible.”
Action Cancer’s Events Officer Arlene Creighton said: “New York is one of the six World Marathon Majors - taking you from Staten Island through the five boroughs of New York to the finish in Central Park, it is an experience that stays with our runners for a lifetime. To guarantee your place, all that’s required is your £400 deposit which can be paid in instalments, and then minimum sponsorship of £2,875 to be raised by November 2017.”
