MEMBERS of the public recently joined Translink’s Biodiversity Officer, Jimmy Christie of Larne’s RSPB, Ben Simon of Larne/Carrickfergus Biodiversity Office, and Dermot Hughes of Ulster Wildlife Trust at Glynn Station for two hours to do a bit of bird spotting.

Local bird and wildlife enthusiast, Cameron Moore, was also there lending his expertise in this area, as well as bringing samples of wax wings for all to see. Keep your eyes open and you may see the local flock in a tree in the Whitehead area.

Larne Lough is a prime location to spot many winter migratory birds and did not disappoint on this occasion. Birds sighted were common gull, herring gull, black-headed gull, curlew, oyster catchers, turnstones, cormorant, widgeon, greenshank, great-crested grebe, Brent geese, and carrion crow. Other birds that can be sighted along Larne Lough at this time are kingfishers, whooper swans and egrets.
